My Story

Chaeli Hanna-Kohn, a lifelong resident of Sioux City, Iowa, has been working with Stoneware and Raku pottery for over 20 years. Over the years, she has taught children's pottery courses and sold her art work at local businesses and Art Festivals.

Specializing in functional stoneware, as well as decorative wall hangings and Raku pottery, Chaeli uses the potter’s wheel, extruder and slabs of clay with hand-building techniques. The elements of nature, such as leaves and bark, are often incorporated into the textures of designing the clay pieces. Various colors of glazes are integrated throughout the process, concluding with the firing process.

Chaeli’s work has been displayed and sold at various locations including Sioux City Gifts, 1922 Pierce Street, Sioux City Iowa. She has also donated art work and participated in area fundraisers. Art Shows and Festivals Chaeli has participated in include the Sioux City Clay Artists Annual Holiday Show & Sale; Art In the Park, at Latham Park; Siouxland Garden Show 2015; Yankton Riverboat Days and Summer Arts Festival; Artsplash 2015 and Rockbrook Village Art Festival. Chaeli has been a member of the Sioux City Clay Artists since 2006 and was a full time member of the Sioux City Farmers Market in 2014 and 2015.

Shady Grove Pottery is located in the family’s home just northeast of Sioux City, and is open for business by appointment. Chaeli holds special events and sales several times during the year.
